Given today's economic climate this luxury item may be taking a backseat to DIY or "youtube experts." Salons are under severe pressure to compete with the financial strain on the economy and the gravitation of clients to finding hair advice digitally.

We have collected a few Hair Saver tips for those looking to maximize their hair swag while not breaking their budgets.

Hit the Discount Salons in Between Pricey Cuts

I love this tip I read in the book, Confessions of a Beauty Editor" by the editors of Allure: Get maintenance haircuts in between your pricey salon visits. According to "Confessions," even beauty editors get discount cuts to save money.

They suggest telling the discount stylist to cut along the "map" set by the fancy stylist.

Wait for the coupon! When salons don't see you in a while...

This one is a no brainer. When your favorite salon doesn't see you for a while, they usually send out big discounts on return services in the form of coupons or emails. This is a great opportunity for you to save money and maintain that awesome look. Beware of the fine print. They may require you to come in on slower days or even downtime like early morning or lunch. Remember in this game of economy its all about playing by the rules.

Go Back to School (Beauty School) or Hit a Salon's Training Night

One of the best ways to get a fancy haircut without the price is to set an appointment at a local beauty school. Most of the stylists-in-training are overseen by an experienced teacher so you can bet they won't make a mess of your hair.

Some big salons also offer discount days or training nights. You can enjoy a pricey cut at a fraction of the price. Check out New York Magazines's list of training nights in New York City and this is in various cities. Check South Florida @ ( www.trainingnights.com)

Another option is to hair model for a salon. You don't have as much say in your haircut as you would if you were paying for it, but most stylists will stay within your perimeters.

AMAZING!!! I absolutely love this salon and I will NEVER go anywhere else. Bailey is the one who has done my hair for the past 5 years and he is wonderful. I have an extremely tender head and he is patient and works with me everytime he does my hair, to make sure that I have the easiest experience possible. In this segment we will discuss the how it happens. Prevention is always the best hair health regime cure.
1)

Alopecia is the medical description of the loss of hair from the head or body, sometimes to the extent of baldness. Unlike the common aesthetic depilation of body hair, alopecia tends to be involuntary and unwelcome, e.g., androgenic alopecia. However, it may also be caused by a psychological compulsion to pull out one's own hair (trichotillomania) or the unforeseen consequences of voluntary hairstyling routines (mechanical "traction alopecia" from excessively tight ponytails or braids, or burns to the scalp from caustic hair relaxer solutions or hot hair irons). In some cases, alopecia is an indication of an underlying medical concern, such as iron deficiency.^{[1] -wiki}

BIOTIN:

Biotin deficiency is relatively rare and mild, and can be addressed with supplementation. Such deficiency can be caused by the excessive consumption of raw egg whites (20 eggs/day would be required to induce it), which contain high levels of the protein avidin, which binds biotin strongly. Avidin is deactivated by cooking, while the biotin remains intact.

Symptoms of overt biotin deficiency include:

Hair loss (alopecia)
Conjunctivitis
Dermatitis in the form of a scaly red rash around the eyes, nose, mouth, and genital area.

I then follow through with the perfect service with the perfect flow of communication. The drive for perfection is more about the drive than the end result. So many times in our salons we forget about what we got int this business for. Most got into this business to be the best! Most clients come into our realm to receive that picture perfect look seen in the magazines, the movies, and even their dreams. Although unrealistic at times. I've found that our quest is the same and with communication our journey can come closer to perfection than we think. I leave you with this, communication! COMMUNICATION ! and more communication. The Hair Expert stopped by All Dolled Up Ft. Lauerdale location to have a one on one sit down conversation with one of the salon’s up and coming hair stylist Shenaye J.

Hair Expert: How are you today Shenaye?

Shenaye: I am doing great.!

Hair Expert: Let’s get down to business. What motivated you to work in the hair industry?

Shenaye: It’s has been a passion since the 5th grade. Also, I have a love to make people to feel good about themselves and I love the creativity in designing hair styles.

Hair Expert: I have seen a lot of your outstanding work but is there anything in particular that you specialize in when it comes to doing hair.

Shenaye: Yes I love doing all types of styles but I really love doing bob style hair cuts and doing a variety hair extensions techniques that allow me to work with almost any hair condition. Hair extensions and replacement is my passion.

Hair Expert: How do you like working for ADU?

Shenaye: I love working at ADU Salons! It’s like working with family. We do our best to make every client feel comfortable and at home while giving them the best hair care service and customer service.

TOP FIVE HAIR MYTHS !!

1. Natural hair is stronger than chemically treated hair

ANSWER: Applying chemicals to your hair can weaken the hair shaft. However, that does not mean that natural hair is the best. In reality, all of those kinks & curls could cause breakage and that is why you have to leave some things to the professionals like the stylist at ADU.

2. African American women can’t grow long hair.

This is so not true! Everyone has a point where the hair will just stop growing regardless of ethnicity. Hair growth comes from a having a well balance diet. Also hair that is well-maintained also can help your hair grow which the staff at ADU can help you with that part.

3. You can’t repair split ends.

As much as we’d like to believe this to be true, it is not . You can temporarily treat your split ends with fortifying conditioners but the little scragglers do still exist. The only way to fully repair your hair is by ridding it of its bad parts—and by that we mean cutting but do not fear the stylist are ADU here and the memory of your split ends will have split your mind forever.

4. Wrapping the hair at night is not healthy maintenance.

Wrapping the hair before bed or tying it up with silk or satin caps will help keep the ends of your strands smooth and prevent breakage. Sleeping on satin or silk pillowcases will also work if wrapping is not an option.

5. Greasing the scalp promotes hair growth

A greasing your scalp can create clogged pores however with proper moisturizing the ends will help to promote healthy hair growth.

Whats the hottest look going to be for the spring 2009 in your opinion? I think funky mo hawks, and razor cut asymmetrical bobs will be hot. Basically a low cut that's off the shoulders.

What makes a new client experience great? A new client is satisfied when they receive everything they asked for and a little more. Something different that accentuates who they are.

What types of styles do you love to do the most? I love to do edgy and fun hair styles that turn heads and make people say " THAT'S HOTT!" Weaves, shorts cuts, color services, etc....

How to find a stylist!!!

1) Location Location Location!:

Main places to find a salon would be in shopping plazas! High density populated areas normally are full of salons ! You also want a salon closer to either your job or highly traveled area. That way you can work with the salon hours more easily. Location is important but only a fraction of the hair care experience.

2) Word of Mouth
The power of word of mouth. Listen carefully to what friends and family say about a particular salon or stylists. If a friend tells you "such and such" is slow or a lil unfriendly, take heed. If a friend says that "such and such" is awesome with extensions this is usually a great testimony for your next hair care experience. Most salons and stylist create their own audience. Stylists normally have preferred styles and techniques and put those types of styles out day after day. Listen close and find out the details before taking that next plunge. Sometimes don't just listen! Actively listen and ask questions!

3)Internet

Google is our new hair friend! He shows us where, when, and how! Look up your stylist or salon and see if they are up on the latest techniques, products, or services! It also makes great conversation if you are aware what your salon or stylists is doing from time to time. Also if a salon or stylist is active on the internet they are probably behind in other areas also!! hint hint!

4) Follow the trend

Trends are constantly changing! This doesn't mean you have to jump from salon to salon as the trend does. Pay attention to what your stylist is telling you. If you don't hear any talk about changing trends or new products you and your hair could be left behind.

5) Put your money where your mouth is!

Money isn't always right when betting on your hair but el cheapo more than likely leads to hair breakage and a very poor experience when it comes to your hair. Find a nice comfortable price range by calling around. Then go for the better sales pitch on the phone and word of mouth reference.. Remember you don't have to go broke to have an awesome look! Sometimes the extra effort and self respect will land you in that perfect chair!
